JEE Main April 2019: Here’s how to improve AIR ranking

With NTA’s decision to conduct the JEE Main exams twice a year from 2019, many aspirants are at an added advantage. The common rank lists will denote the All India and Category ranks of the candidates in addition to the details of the candidates and marks obtained. The JEE Main rank will be the basis for admissions to the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs

The JEE Main rank will be the basis for admissions to the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

For those who missed out on the first attempt or want to improve their ranking to qualify for JEE Advanced, here is a better chance. Attempting the first Main exam should be considered as a mock test which clarifies the weak areas for detailed analysis and further preparations.

Strengthen your weaker subjects

Identify the chapters whose questions were difficult to solve. Consult teachers and faculty for clearing doubts. Allocate extra hours every week for the difficult subjects and doubt-clearing sessions. Discipline is the key to follow the time table. Keep one hour in a week for self-analysis and correction.

Utilise the gap between board exams

Board exams and the second attempt to JEE Main being closely scheduled, preparations for both need to be planned meticulously. However, the challenge remains about how to focus and go about it to emerge victorious in both the exams. There are certain sub-topics in various subjects which generally get more weightage in the Boards because the questions are subjective type. There are also some topics which are included in JEE Main, but not part of the JEE Advanced exam and students tend to ignore them during their preparation. For example, in Physics, the chapters on Electronic Devices and Communications Systems are part of JEE Main and the Board exam, but not part of the JEE Advanced Exam. Students should carefully study these chapters along with the questions from the sample papers so that they can comfortably handle descriptive questions from these chapters.

JEE Main 2019 Day 3 analysis: Chemistry easiest, Physics toughest; students react

JEE Main 2019: The cut-off is expected to go high, according to experts as students are finding exams to be easier than last year. Many questions directly from NCERT class 11 and class 12 books. For session 1 of Day 3, Physics remained the toughest and lengthiest of all sections.

JEE Main 2019: The third day of the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) shift one has concluded and the second shift began from 2:30 pm. Students who have appeared for the January 10 first shift found Physics section difficult today. While Mathematics was considered easy to moderate, Chemistry was considered to be easiest by the students. This is similar to the reactions students gave after second shift exam yesterday.

“The day 2 of the JEE Main exam was similar to yesterday’s. The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The Physics section was logical with difficulty level between moderate to tough. Mathematics section was between easy to moderate. While, the Chemistry section was easy as compared to the other two sections. Some questions in Physics and Chemistry were simple and directly picked from NCERT,” said Navin C Joshi, Academic head and VP (JEE and NEET) at Gradeup.

“In Physics and Mathematics sections, few concepts and questions were repeated from day 1. Therefore students are advised to go through day 1 and day 2 exam analysis before appearing for future slots. Considering the papers of past 3 slots, the cut-off is expected to be in the range of 80 to 85,” he added.

“Last year, the cut-off went low. The exam was of moderate difficulty level however, students with their concepts cleared found it to be easy. So we are expecting the cut-off to be on the higher end. Around 85+ cut-off can be expected,” said Amit Kumar, mentor, career launcher. Talking about yesterday’s exam, Joshi too said that the cut-off can be expected to be on the higher side.

Candidates who appeared for the first shift exam yesterday found Mathematics to be the toughest. Chemistry for two days of engineering entrance exam has remained the easiest subject for students. The JEE Main overall, this year is considered to be easy as compared to last year by students and experts, alike. On the first day, NTA had conducted exam for entrance to architecture colleges.

Today, no error has been reported by the students. Yesterday, a student took to Twitter to inform that he had one answer appearing twice in one of the questions in Chemistry. It is the first time the JEE Main is being conducted as the computer-based test (CBT).

JEE Advanced 2019: Extramarks revamps its test prep app in order to adjust the exam patterns

JEE Advanced 2019: Extramarks’ app boasts of a Weekly Test series, wherein, once a week, students can avail the opportunity to be nationally tested along with their peers

The Joint Entrance Exam for admission into the premier IITs is among the toughest, most cut-throat competitive exams in India. One could argue that in terms of scale and selection, it is among the toughest exams in the world. No wonder then that preparation stress and anxiety dominates the life of most aspirants, who are in search of a credible resource to help them crack the JEE entrance with confidence.

The doyen of digital learning, Extramarks, has recently revamped its IIT-JEE app to cater to the exam prep of engineering aspirants, especially keeping in mind the latest developments in the exam pattern. As is common knowledge now, the National Testing Agency (NTA), constituted in November 2017, will be conducting the IIT-JEE entrance test, 2019 onwards.

The test will be held twice, once in January and then in April, but the most significant aspect of this development is that the test will only take place in the ONLINE mode.

This being a new development, the anxiety among students, who are as yet not prepared to deal with exam pressure in the online mode, is on a rise. Bearing this in mind, Extramarks has remodeled its IIT-JEE Prep app into a robust testing platform, to give students a complete hang of the online climate of testing. The gap created by the change in exam format, as announced in July this year, is being bridged by the timely introduction of the app by Extramarks.

“We have developed a robust testing engine, which can tremendously benefit the students looking at giving the JEE exam in 2019,” shared Atul Kulshrestha, Chairman and Managing Director, Extramarks Education. He further adds, “Experts and educators with proven test records have been brought on board to create and curate practice and mock test papers. We’ve been very meticulous while shaping our IIT-JEE app, keeping up with the current changes and needs.”

The app boasts of a Weekly Test series, wherein, once a week, students can avail the opportunity to be nationally tested along with their peers, thus gaining a comprehensive insight into where they stand. Like Atul shared, educators whose students have gained top ranked in the previous IIT entrance exams, have curated this series of tests.

They will help students get a feel of the actual exam. In addition, several mock test papers, practice test papers and previous years papers are available through the app as well. Extramarks deeply believes in personalization of the learning experience, and keeping that in mind, there is an option for the students to self-create chapter and subject-wise tests, picking areas they think they need more practice in.

Another significant feature of the app is the extensive and deep real-time reports generated through student performances. The app is AI and data analytics backed, which helps in letting a student understand areas of strengths and improvement, thus leading to an informed planning of study.

The app carries updated exam information, pattern and syllabus, thus being a smart-phone capsule to be carried along by the serious JEE aspirants everywhere and learning on the go.
