JEE Main Exam Pattern Highlights
JEE Main 2020 is conducted in two papers – Paper 1 (Engineering) and Paper (Architecture). A quick sneak peek is given below:

NTA has been established as a self-maintained, chief testing association to hold exams that are as of now directed by the CBSE. JEE Main Exam Pattern: Paper 1 (B.Tech/ B.E.)
- Paper-1 of JEE Main 2020 will be conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering courses.
- As per the updates, the examination will be a Computer Based Test.
- Paper 1 will have questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
- There will total of 90 Multiple choice questions, 30 from each subject.
- The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes.
- The medium of the paper will be English and Hindi. However, students filling the exam centers in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli cities will have the option to opt for English, Hindi or Gujarati medium.

Physics Section-Wise Exam Pattern
- 30 questions of objective type are asked from Physics in Paper 1.
- Each correct marked answer is of 4 marks.
- 1 mark is deducted from candidates’ score for every incorrect answer.
Chemistry
- Chemistry section will be divided into three sections: Physical Chemistry, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry, Questions will be mixed up in this section from these three topics.
- There will be a total of 30 Multiple choice based questions
- Each correct marked answer is of 4 marks.
- 1 mark is deducted from candidates’ score for every incorrect answer.
Mathematics
- 30 questions of objective type are asked from Mathematics in Paper 1.
- Each correct marked answer is of 4 marks.
- 1 mark is deducted from candidates’ score for every incorrect answer.
- Paper-2 of JEE Main 2020 will be conducted for admission to undergraduate architecture courses.
- It will be a Computer Based Test, testing a candidate’s aptitude in the field of Mathematics and Drawing Ability.
- The paper will consist of a total of 82 questions, 50 questions for aptitude test, 2 questions for drawing test and 30 questions from mathematics.
- The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes.
- The medium of the paper will be English and Hindi. However, students filling the exam centres in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Havel cities will have the option to opt for English, Hindi or Gujarati medium.
- Each correct question will carry 4 marks and two drawing questions will be of 35 marks each.
- One marks will be deducted from candidates’ total score for each incorrect response.

Part 1 Section-Wise Exam Pattern
- Aptitude test will contain 50 objective type questions.
- 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer.
- 1 mark is deducted from candidates’ score for every incorrect answer.
Part 2
- Mathematics will contain 30 Multiple choice objective type questions.
- 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer.
- 1 mark is deducted from candidates’ score for every incorrect answer.
Part 3
- Drawing Test will comprise of 2 questions.
- Candidates will have to attempt these questions on a separate drawing sheet.
- Each question is of maximum 35 marks.
- Candidates will be awarded marks as per their work on the drawing sheet.
JEE Main Exam Pattern: Marking Scheme
- JEE Main 2020 Paper 1 will consist of 360 marks while Paper 2 will be of 390 marks.
- Four marks will be awarded for each right answer while one mark will be deducted for the wrong answer except for Drawing Test.
- Drawing Test will have 2 questions of 35 marks each.
- Filling up more than one choice will be termed incorrect and marks will be deducted for the same.
